The Westfield Crest

Picture
Westfield Football Club came up with a new club badge to represent the dawning of a new era. The new crest features a phoenix to reflect the club's 'rising from the ashes' after its clubhouse was destroyed by fire back in September.
It also bears the Latin phrase 'Ex cinis cineris nos orior oriri ortus' which means 'Out of the ashes we rise'.

Joint manager Duncan Jones, the man behind the new badge, explained: "The 'Westfield Tree' has been the symbol of this football club for many years.

"With the (proposed) construction of a new ground at Westfield Downs and the fire at the old Parish Field, we find ourselves moving into a new era. The destruction of the Parish Field was soul destroying to us all but as someone very aptly said 'Westfield FC is a lot more than just the buildings that stood on that site'.

The phoenix is a talismanic symbol of hope, progression and transformation and represents the future of the club, rising from the ashes and leading us into a new and exciting era. But whilst we have to move on in this world, we will never forget our roots, which is why the image of the tree is still present as a lifeline that runs through our club.

Only one thing survived the fire; the number six shirt of our beloved friend and team-mate Graeme Kempster, who tragically lost his life in a car accident (in August 2006). 'VI' appears above the phoenix's head, first as a symbol of the club's strength in the face of adversity but also as tribute, to both Graeme, and all others who have been part of our club but who can sadly no longer be with us. We retired Graeme's six shirt the day we lost him, but now we all carry him, and the memory of others that have passed, with us every time we set foot on the pitch."
